To our BRISD Fans:
Instances of spectators attacking and/or verbally criticizing officials have increased across the state over the past few years. Although this is not an overt issue in Blue Ridge ISD, I believe that this is a good time to remind our great fans that we expect everyone to demonstrate class when supporting our teams, coaches, opponents, and officials.
Questioning calls made by the officials, officiating from the stands, or excessive verbal dissatisfaction directed towards the game officials WILL NOT BE TOLERATED (from home fans or visiting fans) by Blue Ridge ISD, the UIL, or the Officials Associations. Blue Ridge ISD Game Administrators can and will remove spectators from the premises at the request of game officials. Spectators may also be prohibited from attending future games due to undesirable behaviors towards either team, coaches, players, or officials.
The Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) is the organization that assigns officials for games. They have implemented a 3-strike policy where each incident that results in a fan being removed from the gym or stadium counts as a strike. After three incidents in which a spectator is removed at the request of the official, TASO can refuse to officiate games in our district. Obviously, we do not want this to occur. Because without officials, we would not be able to play the games.
Blue Ridge ISD supports officials, and we love our fans. So, we ask that ALL fans act responsibly in demonstrating respect for the officials, all student-athletes, coaches, and our opponents. Thanks in advance for your cooperation. GO TIGERS!
Sincerely,
Dr. Darrell G. Floyd
Superintendent
Blue Ridge ISD
